SCARY
STORIES STUFFED ANIMALS. Scare the Beanies -- and maybe even the blues!
-- away with NYC artist Wendy Gardner's Killer Kiwi Devil Cat (described as
"not very positive"), a piranha named Poor Sarah Got Sold for Ten
Bucks (also her biography), and Sir Leo Lick-a-Lot (reminds me of a mother's
admonition in one NY Times "Metropolitan Diary: "Sweetie, this is
New York. You can't lick the steps"). Available at

HOW MANY? A recent Yankelovich phone survey shows that 28% of Americans
have had two to five sexual partners; 15% have had just one.
Margin of error: 1 partner standing nearby.

TWINKIE
FAMINE!!! Well, maybe it's just
as well. But just in case:
RECIPE: HOMEMADE TWINKIES
SUPPLIES
Twinkie-size bottle
12 pieces of aluminum foil
Pastry bag
Toothpick
FOR THE CAKE
3 egg whites 16-ounce box yellow cake mix
2/3 cup water
Nonstick spray
FOR THE FILLING
2 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup confectioners sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 drops lemon extract
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Make molds one at a time by shaping a piece of
foil around the bottle, leaving one long side open. Arrange molds on a cookie
sheet and apply nonstick spray.
Beat egg whites until stiff, then combine with cake mix and water and blend.
Fill each mold 3/4-inch deep with batter and bake about 30 minutes.
Cream butter and shortening, then slowly add sugars, evaporated milk and extracts,
mixing until fluffy.
When cakes are done and cooled, use a toothpick to make three small holes
in the bottom of each for filling. Using the pastry bag, inject each cake
with filling through all three holes.
