Dear Breakup Girl,
What is the point of dating someone if you could never see youself married
to them? What is the point of dating?
--Macaroni Salad
Dear Macaroni Salad,
For me and Marc
Anthony, say, dating would be beside the point on account of it's already
clear that we're perfect for each other. But some folks aren't interested in
marriage in the first place, so there's that. But if you -- as in you, Mac --
want to get married, like, on the next boy/girlfriend, yet are dating someone
you can't see marrying, then you tell me: what, practically, is the
point?
Or: what, self-defeatingly, is the point of saying you want to get
married
but then acting otherwise? To be fair -- and to answer your second
question -- part of it is this: humans -- unlike
the giant panda -- are, simply, social creatures. Except for those of
us who, self-defeatingly, will have no hope of ever even dating if we don't
tear ourselves away from the Pandacam.
Love,
Breakup Girl
