Dear Breakup Girl,
I'm a 14-year-old girl and I got a little problem. I've been friends with
this
girl for about a year. We have recently become very close and she is probably
my friend that I trust the most and that I enjoy being with. (We are on the
verge of becoming best friends.) Well last weekend, she came over to my house
and we both went down to our local town's street fair and met my boyfriend and
his friend. I was hoping she would hook up with my boyfriend's friend (I told
her that). Well, at first everything was fine... the awkward shyness of meeting
someone new kicked in. But later on my friend and my boyfriend started really
getting along...they were talking and laughing and seemed to be having a blast.
To tell the truth, I wasn't really jealous because my friend had told me she
thought my boyfriend was unattractive. Well, later on we all go to the movies.
I make sure she sits on the the other side of me and my boyfriend (so that I
am in the middle). Well, she takes him off to get food and they come back like
10 minutes later. The whole entire movie she reaches across me to offer him
food or talk to him and he reaches across me to talk to her. By that time I'm
kinda upset, but I don't show it. Finally, it's time to go home... when he
drops
me and my friend off at my house, he says he will call in a half hour. So he
does. I answer the phone and ask him to hold on a sec. He says "Can I talk to
Kristy" (my friend) and I say sure. I come back 15 minutes later they are still
talking. I'm kinda REALLY upset, but I don't say anything. After half an hour,
I go watch some TV (they are still talking). OK THEY DIDN'T TALK FOR 15
MINUTES,
THEY DIDN'T TALK FOR 30 MINUTES, THEY TALKED FOR 1 hour and a half. I haven't
talked to my boyfriend in 2 days. He keeps calling and doesn't know what's
wrong.
I don't want to tell him I was jealous, but I don't want to let him off the
hook. Should I break up with him?? HELP!
-- Bruna
Dear Bruna,
Don't tell him you were jealous; tell him he was rude.
So was Kristy, for that matter. You don't have to cut them off completely, but
you might also want to spend even more than 1 hour and a half going through
the awkward shyness of meeting someone new.
Love,
Breakup Girl
