Dear Breakup Girl,
I have a problem! I am 13 years old and in grade 8, my old boyfriend, is 13
years old and in grade 7! We just broke up yesterday! I dumped him for no
reason! Well, there were a lot of little ones!
For example,
1. I won't be in his school next year.
2. He'll probably cheat on me next year with this girl that likes him.
3. I want a commitment.
4. We never talk.
5. He's younger so I guess he's really shy cause I'm older than him.
6. I never knew how he felt about me.
Yah, that's all I can think of now! But when my friend told him that I was
really sorry, but I didn't want to go out with him anymore! All he said was
"O.K." *Wah!* I would at least expect him to be sad or something!
Because it killed me to do that! I thought he would care because we were going
out for a month and a half! That's really long for me.
Well, the problem is why do I still care for him when he doesn't care for
me?? I know it was my fault we broke up but he didn't even care! I still like
him, but I think I'm going to ignore him now!
Love,
Liss
Dear Liss,
Hey, sweepea, first of all, those are not
little reasons. I know that you (well, your friend) did what you thought you
had to do. But listen, it's like I told Kimberlee, above: you really don't know
how he felt. (If your friend did the deed, which is really not allowed, you
might not even have been there to judge his reaction for yourself). I don't
mean to say, "Don't worry, Liss, I bet you really hurt him bad!" but
his saying only "OK" doesn't mean he doesn't care. I promise.
Especially if he's shy as you say, well, being rejected may not give him the
confidence he needs to speak up in that moment, you know? And of course you
still care. He was your boyfriend; you didn't break up with him because
you hated him. Try and enjoy the rest of the summer, and find someone more
talkative -- at least during the relationship, or even just the friendship part
-- to enjoy your new school with.
Love,
Breakup Girl
