Dear Breakup Girl,
Your wonderful advice on the subject of office flirtations was ever-present
in my mind when an office friendship seemed to be blossoming into more. I said,
"No no -- keep it in the office, keep it at a decent level. Remember what
BG said about those neato keen office flirts! Safe! Fun! Stays at the office,
in the office, doesn't go anywhere!" Well, it worked out great. We make
quite a team, he's wonderful, I'm wonderful, the lark's on the wing and the
snail is on the thorn.
So last week, he was given a month's notice, a victim of the company's
whimsical random downsizing efforts. Uh oh. This means we won't be working
together anymore. Ay yi yi! Golden opportunity, or end of an era?
Do I do something? Do I ask him out? Perhaps our friendship is so good
solely BECAUSE it's only in the office (and social events outside of said
office, with office workers, in "safe" environments and never alone).
Eek! Any pearls of wisdom you can spare? From the Office of Luuuuuuuv --
Susan
Dear Susan,
As game goes, that's as fair as it gets. Yeah, maybe
the office factor is why your friendship is good, but if there's a more than
friends sprouting underneath, it will grow without fluorescent lighting. The
lark and the snail, huh? Invite him to the local botanical gardens, and let us
know how it goes.
Love,
Breakup Girl
