Dear Breakup Girl,
My husband just left me for the third time, and probably last time after a
32-year marriage. I'm 53, look43. But the old cliche--the younger woman.
He's56, she's 38. He is giving her everything I had, including the health club
that was my sanctuary in my pain. He even bought her the same swim fins. I've
been avoiding the club, but went the other day in desperation and she walked in
and even swam 2 lanes away from me and uses a gym bag he got at a golf
tournament we went to together. I feel they are really rubbing it in my face
and this is a low blow, last straw, whatever. It hurts so bad. I don't want to
use a different club.
-- Forlorn and Swimless in Los Angeles
Dear Swimless,
Ow ow OW! OW. OW!!!
But listen. I know you don't want to use a different
club. And you Shouldn't Have To. I bet it feels like if you switch clubs, you
lose. Wrong. Hold your head high above water and find a pool with no past. And
with -- when you're ready -- new lifeguards.
Love,
Breakup Girl
