Dear Breakup Girl,
I'm in a very precarious situation. I have a best friend who is one of the
coolest chicks I've ever known. On the other hand, I have a girlfriend who is
the best girlfriend I have ever had. However, recently my girlfriend has politely
told me that while she likes my best friend, she would prefer it if I not stay
at her house on certain weekends anymore. Is she overreacting? Am I underreacting?
What do I do?
--Torn in Boston
Dear Torn in Boston,
You are allowed to have friend-girls, even best-friend-girls.
Your girlfriend is allowed to request -- even
if she has nothing to fear (RIGHT?!) -- that you not sleep over chez
said best friend. Boundaries, dude, boundaries. Principle of the thing.
You are advised to honor that request. That is, to do
what it takes to be the best boyfriend you've ever been to anyone you call the
best girlfriend you've ever had.
Love,
Breakup Girl
