Dear Breakup Girl,
I have been dating a guy for a year and a half. I have a dog (Sniffey) that
I have had for years and adore dearly. I moved in with the boyfriend and all
was fine and dandy until one day he told me I could no longer have my dog in
"his" house, and if I wanted to pursue a serious relationship with him, then
I had better get rid of my dog and then we could get another dog (a breed he
likes better). Sniffey is staying with a friend temporarily. (Everyone loves
him, and he NEVER makes a mess or damages property.) I am starting to think
my boyfriend is selfish and subscribes to the belief, "his way or the highway,"
and I am devastated that he fails to take my feelings into consideration. What
would you do?
--Missing Sniffey
Dear Sniffey,
Don't worry, pup, Mommy totally misses you. She's thinking
about you lots and lots. She even wrote to Breakup Girl about you! And BG wants
her to know that while people (the bad kind) are allowed to not like dogs, boyfriends
are not allowed to let girlfriends move in with their dogs and then decide,
after the fact, that they can have a dog, just not that one. No! Bad! It's as
if he's tossing you out, expecting her to chase after you ... and stay out.
I hope it works, actually. Is there room at that friend's house for your mommy,
too?
Love,
Breakup Girl
