Dear Breakup Girl,
I've been going out with my boyfriend for 9 months, and he's acting very
apathetic. He used to dress up in a cute suit and take me dancing -- now he
alternates between rushing around finishing projects (he's a freelance graphic
designer) and lying half dead sprawled in front of the TV This is horribly
depressing. I discovered that his behavior improved when I went over to his
house nightly and showered him with love and attention. This worked great,
except I couldn't help but think that he should be picking me up in his car
instead of me TAKING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION across town to see him. He's picked
me up maybe a total of 3 times in the last 2 months to go out on a date. Why am
I putting up with this? Because when we're actually together he does say nice
things and act appropriately. What can be done?
-- Rexy
Dear Rexy,
Well, I don't think he should come pick you up ...
just so you can go do your behavior improvement project. Also because his spark
plugs are apparently working a little too well. Arrange to meet him at the
Roxy; have a ball. Then have a talk about what's missing for him. He'll
probably say "Nothing." Then tell him what's missing for you. 'Cause
this is one case where clothes and cars might actually mean
something.
Love,
Breakup Girl
