Dear Breakup Girl,
My mom hates my boyfriend and says he is not for me. He has changed our
relationship because of this. I am never home any more because I know she
doesn't like him. I know what she doesn't like about him in a way, but I still
love to be with him. I'm torn between her and him. Sometimes I wonder if maybe
she is right and I just don't see it. It's not like her to not like my
boyfriends. What should I do???
-- Confused
Dear Confused,
Moms don't have to like all boyfriends. Sometimes they
just don't. But sometimes they know what they're talking about. And sometimes
their kids know they know what they're talking about. So next time you're
actually home, talk to her. She needs to give you more information than
"he is not for you;" ask her, nicely, what she means. See if it
matches your own suspicions. 'Cause it sounds to me like you're actually torn
between your mom and your conscience. Which, often, are the same.
Love,
Breakup Girl
PS What do you mean, he has changed your relationship?
Huh?
