Dear Breakup Girl,
I've been studying with my cello teacher for a while now. I'm continuing to
study with him although I'm majoring in Music Performance at a university in So
Cal. (He's pretty popular with the local musicians and critics.)
Bob---well, let's just call him "Bob," is a wonderful sensitive
man, and a tad tempermental. We've shared so many laughs, good moments,
harmless flirting, achievements, and failures. I can always manage to put him
in stitches with my dry sense of humor and pouty expressions.
I never told anyone about the way I feel about "Bob"... it's my
own sweet secret.
Problem #1: He's 31.
Problem #2: He's in a whole different music crowd... I'm just budding...
Problem #3: I worry that I'm a child to him, although has told me I'm a
beautiful girl... a harmless compliment, of course. What now?

Dear So-Cal Girl,
How great that you have such an excellent teacher. So
let me ask you this: is your "sweet secret" enhancing your study, or
interfering with it? Doesn't sound like the latter, so, well, you know what I
always say: never overlook the possibility of simply Enjoying the Buzz (doesn't
it mean that you practice more, try harder, etc.?) ... especially when careers
and preexisting relationships and futures are at stake. If I were you, I'd quit
pouting.
Love,
Breakup Girl
