Dear Breakup Girl,

Over Christmas break, my girlfriend went on a band trip to Florida for 8 days. When she came back, she totally hated me for no reason!! Her roommate was someone who hated me so I know she "brainwashed" my girlfriend into hating me. My girlfriend lives across the street and we haven't spoken really in two days. What should I do? Can we be "ex's" when we live across the street?

Dear Dan,

Aw, geez. Well, I'd give her a couple days, and then go talk to her if you can. Even if you can't change her mind, at least to try and mend fences. 'Cause yeah, it's not about whether or not you "can" be exes who live across the street, it's about how you'll manage. No fair borrowing binoculars or intercepting the mail carrier; fair, totally fair, to use your back door for a while. And look at it this way: some people, their relationships being what they are, somehow manage to be exes when they live in the same house.
