Dear Breakup Girl,

Okay, here's the deal: I just got out of a serious relationship. The guy I was dating went away to college. I'm still in high school and facing the ultimate bummer of having to go to prom alone. I went with friends to the prom last year, but was hoping to take a date this year. Since I'm from a small town, most of the guys that live around here are really good friends of mine whom I would never think to ask out. Any ideas on how to pick out that perfect prom date?

--Erica

Dear Erica,

How to pick a "perfect" prom date? Not necessarily. How to try and find one and have fun in the process -- and at prom? That I can work with. Those really good friends of yours? Quick, find out if any of them have really good friends you can pre-scope at some upcoming get together. See what happens; pop the question if you're inspired. Heck, I was once thrilled to be imported to a prom in fabulous faraway New Hampshire. With a little dancing-feetwork, you might just find yourself on the arm of the Boy Small-town-next-door.

Love,
Breakup Girl
