Dear Breakup Girl,
Help! I am 43. I am thin, I am told I am attractive, usually people guess
my age to be late 30s. But I have been divorced 6 years and found no one who
will have a real relationship with me. The last one played with me, acted like
he cared and then left me for a much younger woman he committed to. I am very
lonely. Is it true that I have a better chance of being struck by lightening
then getting married again, as I once read?
-- Heather
Dear Heather,
Only, perhaps, if you are a
golfer in Florida. A tree-dwelling golfer in Florida. In a pool-dwelling
tree. With some metal bolts and stuff in your head. Come in out of the rain
and read pp 9-19 of Backlash
if you don't believe me.
True, though, it does get harder as you get older. Or
at least it feels that way. So if you want some numbers that are actually reassuring
-- not to mention possibly accurate -- look here
to count all the single men in your state, Florida or otherwise (and here
or here to find out what they're doing
and where).
And about your other state -- you know, loneliness -- please
do whatever you can to weather the [lack of] storm and get back out there, galoshes
and all. I know it doesn't feel this way right now, but love can definitely
strike twice.
Love,
Breakup Girl
