Dear Breakup Girl,

Here's the deal. I met my boy online at he beginning of September in a chatroom. We met IRL that very day and started dating. He is a wonderful man, and I believe that I'm in love with him. My question: how do you tell someone that you are in love with them? I know I must sound like a lovesick teenager, but I'm almost 27! I have a feeling he feels the same and is as afraid to say it as I am. BG, he is the best thing that's ever happened to me, and I want to let him know. Help!

Well, hoo and ray! What a good problem to have. Well, if you're not quite up for the Big Blurt -- and if you promise to follow the rules above -- there are lots of warm-up exercises you could do. Like saying, "Gee whiz, you make me feel like a lovesick teenager." Or "You're the best thing that ever happened to me, and I want to let you know that." Or "I really lo-- care about you a lot." Or say it in a note. Or frosting. Or meander there by telling him what you love about him. Or follow jj's lead: "My boyfriend and I were very freaked out by those three words. So one morning lying in bed we counted to three and said it at the same time and started laughing at ourselves."
