Dear Breakup Girl,
What's this "no poaching" rule [letter
from Hoping + many others -- BG]?
Isn't there a saying, "All's fair...yadda yadda yadda?" Now, I've got
an ironclad rule against dating anyone that ever dated friends of mine, but
if I don't know the other guy, then as far as I'm concerned, even an active
relationship is only a speedbump if I like the girl enough. I think I'm
generally
considered, by both sexes, to be a pretty good guy (thoughtful, loyal,
trustworthy,
etc.), but since I almost always hold your thoughts in these matters in the
highest regard, I'm feeling a little angsty that my sense of interpersonal
ethics
isn't quite as high-minded as I had thought. As you've probably guessed, I'm
currently in the midst of an act of poaching (not of the highest order -- the
relationship was deteriorating prior to my entering the picture). Am I a bad
person? Am I unwittingly taunting the laws of Karma? Or does this "no
poaching"
rule allow a little leeway?
--Didn't Think I Was A Bad Guy, But...
Dear Didn't Think,
Well, let's say you start dating your current poachee,
or whomever. After a while, things start "deteriorating." Then some
random guy enters the picture and starts macking on your girl.
Now is all fair?
That is all. Anything else would require a joke about
your karma, my dogma, and a speedbump.
Love,
Breakup Girl
