SHOUTOUTS
To BG from Nighwind:
I didn't come here intending to ask a question; I am usually just here for
the comics, but after
the column I just read, I decided to speak up. All throughout high school (and
into collage), I had horrible luck with relationships. (See why I like the comics
here so much?) There were a few good ones, but nothing spectacular, and so,
at 20 I was still a virgin, not necessarily because I hadn't had a chance, but
mostly just because none of the relationships seemed stable enough to survive
the added complication (and true enough, most of them fell apart fast enough
to prove that). Well, now I do have the kind of relationship that stories are
written about; we are very much in love, and guess what? I am very glad I waited.
I am not saying that waiting is for everybody, but it certainly worked for me.
So this really is just a shoutout to BG for having one of the best pages around
and kicking ass (and giving a kick in the ass when needed)!
BG responds: Who-hoo! Thanks heaps.
And from Kaitlyn:
I found this quote by Garrison Keillor and thought it most appropriate for
this site and for the BG philosophy in general:
"Don't prolong a breakup. Don't pretend to discuss matters when you've already
made up your mind. Breaking up isn't an indictment, it doesn't require long
hearings and the presentation of evidence ... Usually, one person initiates
the breakup on behalf of both partners, and you don't need to say, ‘Fie
on you, O hairy-legged troll, shadow my door no more!' It's more like,
‘You're a wonderful person but we're not right for each other, and why
go deeper and deeper into these woods?' And then break, cleanly and firmly.
One breaks up with another out of respect for them and a refusal to inflict
pain, not out of anger or contempt. One breaks up because one is brave and doesn't
fear loneliness so much as one fears cruelty, especially one's own."
BG responds: Genius.
