Dear Breakup Girl,
Hi! I am a senior college student, and believe it or not, my boyfriend for
ten months is just a senior high school student. Dig that?
Any way, I've been thinking about this for quite a long time. I always get
paranoid and feel insecure in our relationship. Sometimes I feel like I don't
trust him anymore. Maybe because he has hurt me a lot, or he is just plain
insensitive. Is it because he is still a kid? I think that sometimes, he is
mature enough. Please help me.
-- Betty Joy
Dear Betty Joy,
I am about to sound like your mother.
No, I do not "dig that."
The four years between, say, 34 and 38 are one thing.
But the four years between high school senior and college senior are...light
years. That's light years, not years of enlightenment. I'm not saying he's a
bad person; he may very well be "mature enough" ... for his peers. I
mean, I like to have younguns around now and then to remind me of the
difference between Everclear and Clearasil ... but that does not a relationship
make. With all due respect, the whole thing strikes me as just plain weird. You
might be on the Dean's List in school, but here at B.G.U., you're on the
Breakup List (see below).
Love,
Breakup Girl
